Classic virtualisation with VMware vSphere/ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, KVM ... has been established and is an indispensable part of data centres. Now, with container virtualisation, another form of virtualisation is making its way into companies. While classic virtualisation completely replicates servers and PCs including hardware in software, container virtualisation virtualises individual services such as web servers, databases, etc., which results in a significantly lower overhead (keyword "microservices").
Compared to virtual machines, containers can be set up more quickly, are easier to replicate and use fewer resources. Furthermore, they offer advantages in terms of scaling and load distribution.
With many practical exercises, this workshop teaches the basics of container virtualisation based on Docker.
