Key Features

Day 1: VoIP Foundations, Architecture, Readiness, and QoS Objectives

  • Understand VoIP concepts, architectures, and readiness criteria.
  • Distinguish core protocols (SIP/SDP/RTP) and how they interact.
  • Introduce QoS concepts, bandwidth planning, and capacity planning basics.

Day 2: SIP, SDP, RTP/RTCP, and Codec Handling Objectives

  • Deep dive into SIP, SDP, RTP/RTCP, and codec negotiation.
  • Understand how codecs are selected, and how RTP flows work with SIP.
  • Begin to explore NAT traversal implications.

Day 3: SIP Flows, Registration, Trunks, and NAT Traversal Techniques; Introduction to Security Objectives

  • Map typical SIP call flows (registration, invite, ack, bye).
  • Explore trunks (SIP trunks, PSTN interfacing) and NAT traversal techniques in depth.
  • Introduce VoIP security concepts: TLS, SRTP, SIP authentication basics, and DoS mitigation concepts.

Day 4: Session Border Controllers (SBCs), B2BUA, Media Handling, and Troubleshooting Tools Objectives

  • Understand SBC roles, B2BUA behavior, and media handling strategies.
  • Explore common VoIP troubleshooting tools and techniques.
  • Begin addressing common VoIP issues: jitter, packet loss, one-way audio, codec mismatches.

Day 5: H.323 Overview, Review, and Best Practices Objectives

  • Compare H.323 with SIP and discuss when H.323 might still be used.
  • Synthesize knowledge into best practices for design, deployment, monitoring, and security.paths, and the /proc filesystem.
